What Are The Most Common Newbie Affiliate Marketing Mistakes?
Affiliate marketing is one of the most effective and powerful ways of earning money online and having a successful home based business. This option gives anyone a chance to make an income via the Internet.
Since affiliate marketing programs are easy to join, implement, and they pay commissions on a regular basis, more and more people are now considering this option when deciding to start a home based business.
However, like all businesses, there are several pitfalls in the affiliate marketing industry. Committing any of these mistakes will cost you your time, money, reputation and potentially worst case scenario your entire business. That is why it is better to avoid them.
Mistake number 1: Choosing the wrong affiliate.
Many people want to earn from affiliate marketing as fast as possible. However, you need to understand that building a long term successful online home based business will take time. Don’t expect it to happen overnight.
Many newbie’s to affiliate marketing in their rush to get started will join an affiliate program just to be part of one instead of doing necessary research first. Another misstep many newbie’s make is choosing a product that is in demand or “hot” right now without actually considering if the product appeals to them, nor considering their competition for that product.
Instead, choose a product or service that you are truly interested in. For any endeavor to succeed, you need to be passionate about it. Then do some research about that product/service to see if it is in demand. From there, check out your competition to see if you stand a chance for ranking in the search engines for that niche.
Then most importantly do research on the product/service you want to become an affiliate for. Find out does the product/service have good customer reviews, is their return/refund rate small (less than 5%), does the company or individual providing the product or service have a good reputation, etc. Remember whatever you promote is a reflection on you, and it will affect your reputation as well. All of these things must be considered when choosing an affiliate program.
I cannot stress enough that you then need to take the time to plan and figure out your actions for successfully marketing the product or service you chose.
Mistake number 2: Joining too many affiliate programs in the beginning.
Since affiliate programs are very easy to join, you might be tempted to join multiple affiliate programs to try and maximize your potential earnings. I highly recommend against this when you are first starting out. I am sure you may be thinking there is nothing wrong and nothing to lose by being part of many affiliate programs. This cannot be further from the truth.
This reason I say this is because joining multiple affiliate programs at once and attempting to promote them all at the same time will prevent you from concentrating fully on each one of them. The result of this will most likely be that your maximum potential for the product/service you are promoting will not be realized, and the income you generate will not be as large as you were expecting.
The best way to get excellent results is by starting with just one affiliate program. Once you find the program you want, give it your best effort by promoting that product enthusiastically. As soon as you start to make reasonable commissions from that affiliate, then you can join another affiliate program.
The technique is to do it slowly but surely. You will also be able to evaluate your efforts to see what works best for you, so moving forward with other affiliate programs you will be able to start profiting more quickly.
Mistake number 3: Not buying the product or using the service.
As an affiliate, your main purpose is to effectively promote a product or service and to find customers. For you to achieve this, you must be able to relay information about the product or service to your customers honestly. It is impossible for you to do this when you yourself have not used what you are promoting.
Most importantly, you are risking your entire online business reputation. It won’t take potential customers long to figure out that you are deceiving them, and this will ruin your business and the reputation that you’ve worked hard to build. Once you have ruined your reputation you can rarely salvage it.
I cannot stress enough to try the product or service personally first before you sign up as an affiliate to see if it really delivers what it promises. If you have done so, then you are one of the credible and living testaments aware of its advantages and disadvantages. Your customers will then feel the sincerity and truthfulness from you and this may convince them to purchase the product/service for themselves.
Additionally, I must state this. Just because you tried the product and can give an honest review of it, DO NOT promote it if you didn’t like the product yourself. Only promote what you like and are passionate about.
Many affiliate marketers makes these mistakes and it costs them dearly. By following the three simple steps above you will avoid making these common mistakes.
